National Apprenticeship Week February 2026

This month saw the celebration of National Apprenticeship week, an annual event to highlight businesses and their apprentices nationwide. It is an opportunity to shine a light on the skills, impact and positive attributes that apprentices bring to their stakeholders.

At Cowley & Co, we have always invested in apprentices and recognised the importance they have in the future of the construction industry.

In September 2025, we welcomed Jack as a bricklaying apprentice. He has settled in well during his first 6 months and has learned key skills in mixing mortar and laying blocks. We were also pleased to welcome Matt as an electrical engineering apprentice last September, and he has worked alongside the team at Cable Connect to develop skills in clipping and fitting boxes. Both Jack and Matt attend North Lindsey college on day release every week, and they are enjoying the start of their construction journey.

At the other end of the apprenticeship journey is Charles, our bricklaying apprentice who is at the end of his apprenticeship and looking to progress through Gateway/EPA at Lincoln College this Spring and earn his qualification. Charles has developed a range of skills in bricklaying and can now work independently and with confidence in the tasks that he is asked to do. It has been great to see Charles progress through his apprenticeship, and we can’t wait to celebrate his success when he completes it.

Finally, a fantastic example of the impact of apprenticeships is Ben, who has been with our company for the last 5 years. Ben began as a joiner apprentice, completed his Level 2 and then moved onto completing his Level 3 joinery qualification. He has become a valued member of our team through his hard work and determination to succeed, and we are very proud to support his next step as an apprentice Site Supervisor. This involves studying at University Campus North Lincolnshire on a weekly day release and learning a range of skills involved with site supervision. This will be a great addition to Ben’s range of skills and an invaluable asset to our company.

We are incredibly proud of all our apprentices and can’t wait to see what the future holds!
